The Diamond Tail Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus attenuatus) is a captivating reef-safe wrasse that steals the spotlight in any aquarium. Here are some intriguing details about this remarkable fish:

  1. Appearance:

    • The vibrantly colored male Diamond Tail Flasher Wrasse is predominantly red/orange with blue, horizontal stripes that complement its yellow stomach.
    • Its multi-colored dorsal fin features red, yellow, and blue hues, with a single elongated ray.
    • A gorgeous red band across the anal fin enhances its bold and impressive color palette.
    • The caudal fin (tail fin) is flashy in color and diamond-shaped.
    • The female Diamond Tail Flasher Wrasse is more subdued in coloration and overall appearance with smaller fins.
  2. Habitat and Behavior:

    • In the wild, these wrasses are often found along reef slopes and rubble zones where they swim near the bottom.
    • They form small groups in which the male swims back and forth between groups of females.
    • During courtship, the colors of an adult male intensify, and he may flare or “flash” his fins to attract females.
    • We recommend having only one male per aquarium display.
  3. Diet:

    • Their diet should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods.
    • High-quality marine flake and marine pellet food are also suitable for their nutrition.
  4. Size:

    • The Diamond Tail Flasher Wrasse transitions from 1" to 2" initially and reaches 3" to 4" in the terminal phase.
    • Juveniles start at 1-1/2" to 2" and grow to 2" to 3".

In your aquarium, the Diamond Tail Flasher Wrasse will add both beauty and activity!
