Pseudojuloides elongatus, also known as the Long Green Wrasse, is a captivating species found in the coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Here are some intriguing details about this fish:

  • Appearance:

    • Males: They exhibit a pinkish-orange to olivaceous coloration, adorned with up to four rows of metallic blue spots along their upper side. Their heads feature wavy metallic blue lines, and they have a conspicuous yellow to black band, edged distally in metallic blue on the pectoral-fin base.
    • Females: They appear greenish to olive, with a bright yellow to orange iris.
  • Habitat and Depth:

    • Long green wrasses inhabit weedy areas on reefs at depths of approximately 25 meters (82 feet).
    • Their range extends from Australia to New Zealand, including Norfolk Island. Notably, records from the Izu Islands, Japan are considered to represent an undescribed species.
