The Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula) is a captivating marine angelfish found in tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean. Its vibrant appearance and fiery coloration make it a sought-after addition to marine aquariums. Here are some fascinating details about this exquisite fish:

  • Coloration: The Flame Angelfish displays a bright orange-red body adorned with a vertical elongated black spot and four or five bars on the sides, dorsal, and anal fins. These bars alternate between short purple-blue and black bands. Interestingly, specimens from the Marquesas lack the vertical black bars.

  • Habitat: You’ll find Flame Angelfish in various reefs of Oceania, especially common in the Marshall, Line, and Cook Islands. They can also be found, albeit less commonly, in the Hawaiian Islands. They inhabit the foreslope of coral reefs and clear lagoons.

  • Diet: In the wild, Flame Angelfish have a varied diet consisting of algae and crustaceans. In captivity, they adapt well to a diet that includes brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, spirulina, and other meaty offerings. They are often considered reef-safe, as they usually won’t harm soft or stony corals. Underfed individuals may occasionally pick at coral or clam mantles.

  • Breeding: In the wild, they exhibit a haremic mating system.

These captivating fish add a touch of vibrancy and elegance to marine aquariums!
