Assessor flavissimus, also known as the yellow devilfish or yellow scissor tail, is a fish found in the western Central Pacific, specifically recorded from the Great Barrier Reef and Papua New Guinea. This captivating species occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of approximately 5.5 centimeters (2.2 inches) in length. The yellow devilfish is bright yellow in color, with a reddish-orange stripe running from the eye to the upper edge of the operculum. Additionally, it has a reddish-orange band on the dorsal and anal fins, which runs parallel to the fin margin. These fish feed on plankton and often form small groups under overhangs, ledges, and crevices, sometimes swimming upside down. Interestingly, the males exhibit mouth brooding behavior, guarding the eggs in their mouths.
