Liopropoma aberrans, also known as the Golden Basslet, is a captivating species found in the western Pacific Ocean. Its vibrant appearance is nothing short of eye-catching: a combination of saturated yolk-yellow that transitions into a rich tangerine toward the center of its body. The dorsal region of this fish showcases a honeycomb reticulated pattern, adding to its allure.
This elusive basslet resides in the deep waters, occurring from Curacao to North Carolina. However, due to its extreme depth habitat, it has remained just beyond the reach of Florida and other Atlantic fish collectors. Interestingly, the life of one fish collector, Eric Reichardt, was claimed during a dive off Pompano Beach while searching for the elusive Liopropoma aberrans. Despite previous captures, this species has been challenging to maintain due to the decompression process. Now, a submersible-caught specimen has provided an exceptionally clear view of what makes this deepwater basslet stand out from other Caribbean fish.
Imagine encountering this lavish golden beauty in its natural habitat!
