Acanthurus tennenti, commonly known as the Lieutenant Tang, is a marine fish found in the tropical and sub-tropical Indo-Pacific region. It boasts an understated beauty, transitioning from a deep yellow-gold coloration in its juvenile stage to a more distinctive appearance as an adult. The adult Lieutenant Tang displays a mostly tan body with darker lines outlining its form, while the scapulae and anal fin are circled in brilliant blue. As it matures, the tail takes on a forked appearance as the trailers grow.
To accommodate this unique fish, a 180-gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock is essential. This setup provides both swimming space and territories within the live rock. While the Lieutenant Tang can be aggressive toward other Tangs and Surgeonfish, it generally coexists peacefully with other fish. To maintain its health and well-being, offer a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae. Dried seaweed tied to a rock or a veggie clip, fed at least three times a week, will keep your Lieutenant Tang thriving. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent food options.
