Acanthurus guttatus, also known as the Whitespotted Surgeonfish, Spotted Surgeonfish, Mustard Surgeonfish, Mustard Tang, or Spotband Surgeonfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae. These colorful fish are commonly found in shallow waters on reefs in the Indo-Pacific region. Their distinctive features include a gray body with two silver stripes toward the front half and numerous white spots on the back half. The tail and pelvic fins are strikingly yellow, providing a beautiful contrast to the overall coloration.
In aquariums, the Mustard Guttatus Tang thrive in environments adorned with live rock for grazing and hiding. While they can be aggressive toward other tangs and surgeonfish, they generally coexist peacefully with other fish. To maintain their health, it’s essential to offer them a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae. Dried seaweed tied to a rock or a lettuce clip, along with regular feedings, will keep them in optimal condition.
Remember that individual specimens may vary in appearance and size, but these fascinating fish are sure to add vibrancy to any saltwater aquarium!
