Bodianus opercularis, commonly known as the blackspot hogfish, is a captivating species of wrasse found in the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aqaba in the north, extending southward to Madagascar and Mauritius, and eastward to Christmas Island. These fish are intriguing for several reasons:

1. Appearance:

   • The blackspot hogfish exhibits a striking combination of colors:
     • The head and anterior body are a vibrant bright yellow.
     • The rear part of the body is a deep, contrasting blue.
     • A broad blue bar extends above its eye.
     • Its caudal fin is also yellow.
   • The distinguishing feature is its white forked caudal fin.
   • These hogfish reach a maximum length of approximately 14 centimeters (5.5 inches).

2. Distribution and Habitat:

   • Found in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas.
   • They inhabit coral reefs, rocky areas, and sandy bottoms.
   • Their striking appearance and hardiness make them sought-after additions to marine aquariums.
