Scarus quoyi, commonly known as Quoy’s parrotfish or greenblotch parrotfish, is a marine fish native to the western Pacific Ocean, where it thrives in coral reefs. This vibrant species can grow up to a length of approximately 40 cm.
Quoy’s parrotfish exhibits fascinating behaviors. It is a hermaphrodite, forming harems in the wild with one dominant male and three or more females. At night, these parrotfish create a unique “sleeping bag” from slime they produce, which helps protect them from predators.
