Key Details:
- Appearance: This fish is known for its brilliant blue coloration with black outlined fins. It can reach up to 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in length. Interestingly, it can turn completely black when stressed, which helps it evade predators.
- Habitat: It prefers shallow, sheltered lagoons and inshore coral reefs with sandy substrates and rich growths of Acropora corals.
- Behavior: The Blue Sapphire Damselfish is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially as it matures. It is often found in small groups and is reef-safe with corals and invertebrates.
- Diet: Its diet consists of quality flake foods, frozen meaty foods like brine or mysis shrimp, and occasionally dried seaweed.
- Aquarium Care: This species is hardy and suitable for beginners. It requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with plenty of live rock for hiding and establishing territories.
