Wetmorella albofasciata, also known as the White Banded Possum Wrasse, is a captivating marine fish found in the waters of Indonesia. This pygmy wrasse boasts an arrowhead-like shape, predominantly red and black coloring, and striking white vertical stripes. Interestingly, the male and female of this species exhibit similar colors, but during courtship, the male intensifies its hues. The White Banded Possum Wrasse is a peaceful and active fish, making it an excellent addition to a fish-only or reef aquarium of at least 10 gallons. Notably, it won’t bother corals or invertebrates, making it reef-friendly. These wrasses are microcarnivores, feeding on tiny worms and crustaceans associated with live rock. They also readily accept aquarium foods like mysis shrimp, frozen preparations, and flake food. While they can adapt to introduced fodder, housing them in a tank with live substrate ensures they have a steady supply of minute prey living on the rock. A productive refugium can also help meet their dietary needs. Keep in mind that they have a tendency to jump, so a tight-fitting canopy is advisable.
