Chaetodontoplus conspicillatus, also known as the Conspicuous Angelfish, is a captivating species found in subtropical waters between southern Australia and New Caledonia. These elegant fish frequent coral reefs, where they scavenge for sponges, tunicates, or algae to feed on. Their striking appearance and unique markings make them sought-after gems for marine enthusiasts.
- Size: The Conspicuous Angelfish grows to approximately 25 cm (9.8 inches) in length.
As adults, they exhibit a blue-gray body with a golden sheen. Their face and the bases of their caudal and pectoral fins are bright yellow. The lips range from white to light blue, while the snout, outer half of the caudal and pectoral fins, and gill covers are black. Distinctive blue rims adorn their eyes, creating a captivating overall appearance in the underwater world.
Long considered one of the “Holy Grail” species in the aquarium trade, the Conspicuous Angelfish demands both financial wherewithal and years of aquarium experience. While wild-caught individuals can be challenging to acclimate to aquarium living, captive-bred specimens readily adapt.
