The Yellowband Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus) is a captivating marine fish found in coral reefs around the Pacific islands of the Caroline Islands, the Marshall Islands, and Pohnpei. These vibrant wrasses inhabit depths ranging from 7 to 30 meters (23 to 98 feet). Here are some interesting details about this colorful species:

  • Appearance:
    • Male: The male Yellowband Wrasse boasts a bright maroon body with a striking horizontal yellow streak on its side. Additionally, it features blue stripes on its dorsal and anal fins.
    • Female: Females are less colorful, displaying olive green and purplish-blue hues. They have two rows of red spots extending from the base of their pectoral fin to the tail.
  • Habitat:
    • Whether fish-only or reef, provides an ideal habitat for these wrasses.
    • Yellowband Wrasses are reef-friendly and won’t bother corals or invertebrates, making them a great addition to any reef tank.
    • Due to their tendency to jump, a tight-fitting canopy is recommended.
  • Diet:
    • Their diet should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. High-quality marine flakes and pellets are also suitable.
  • Size:
    • Yellowband Wrasses can reach a total length of approximately 12 centimeters (4.7 inches).

These enchanting wrasses add a burst of color to marine aquariums, and their hardiness makes them a delightful choice for aquarists.
